The District's Affective Needs program is hiring 2 Relationship Coaches to serve students with serious emotional disabilities as well as other possible disabilities. The relationship coaches will assist in the development of a learning environment that is structured, organized, and routine-oriented with a variety of instructional formats to facilitate student and self-management and independence skills. This positions requires:
- Ability to complete Crisis Prevention Institue training
- A minimum of two years of experience with special needs children
- Ability to complete additional training before the school year
An Associates degree or higher is perferred. Education and experience is commensurate with pay.
Working Conditions: Heavy lifting; assist students in feeding, ambulation, and other self-help needs; management and de-escalation of students with aggressive behaviors
Specific Skills Preferred:
- Exhibit a deep understanding of the varying needs of the students in the center program, many of whom may exhibit a wide variety of behaviors and/or diagnoses including a serious emotional disability.
- Strong computer skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to follow directions and collaborate with team members
- Ability to remain calm and respond to student behaviors appropriately
- Effective teaching skills to tutor the student
- Willingness to learn about specialized equipment
Major Areas of Responsibility and Duties Specific to this Job
• Implement IEPs and accommodations
• Observe students and monitor goals and progress
• Provide direct instructional services and in-class support
• Facilitate student participation in the school environment
• Assist in the general education classroom as requested
• Assist teacher with curriculum modification and provide input to programming as requested
• Ensure student safety
• Effectively redirect inappropriate student behaviors
• Maintain a positive attitude and act as an appropriate role model at all times
• Provide health care procedures as delegated
• Provide related services (OT, speech, hearing, vision) as delegated
• Maintain incident reports, health logs, and other records
• Act as liaison to teachers, providers, administrators, parents, and community
