FT Transportation Dispatcher

 

RFSD is seeking a Full-Time Dispatcher, to begin as soon as possible.  This key member of our Transportation team coordinates all on-site radio and telephone communications for the Transportation Department. This position also assists the Director of Transportation and others with daily scheduling and operations.  

ESSENTIAL JOB ELEMENTS:

Responsible for daily dispatch operations of District routes. Maintain radio link with buses and all areas of Transportation operations. Monitor starting/ending times. Monitor ridership trends. Ensure routes are on time and document times for stops/late students as needed.

May be contacted after-hours and weekends regarding absences, and coordinating substitute drivers. This position is responsible for making sure that each operator has reported to work and is on-time and/or to keep record of all tardiness and absenteeism. Also serve as a relief school bus operator on occasion. Reports problems and resolutions to the Route Supervisor.

Provide radio/telephone communication link between drivers and emergency response agencies, parents, special education needs, schools and the public. Attend public, school and department meetings as necessary. Report all state required flashing school bus light violations to local law enforcement authorities.

Monitor road and weather conditions and provide input regarding closing of schools. Arrange late or emergency scheduling. Notify schools of late or emergency schedule changes or delays.


Provide customer service for Department to assure smooth operation, a pleasant working environment and excellent service for students, parents, and schools. This involves fielding phone calls and emails as well.

Assist in the development and revision of dispatch policies and procedures concerning accidents, emergency response, adverse weather, and daily operations. Train department personnel on these policies and best practices.

Ensure all driver paperwork is received as required. Monitor for accuracy. Compile statistics and maintain records and reports. Perform office clerical duties, maintain office records and files.


QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent.
3 years bus driver experience or equivalent or as dispatcher is preferred. 
A valid Colorado Commercial Driver’s license (CDL-BP2S) or obtain within 30 days of hire is preferred. 
Demonstrate familiarity with RFSD routes and pupil transportation, dispatch procedures, emergency response procedures, accident reporting procedures, FCC regulations, DOT , CDL, CDE and Colorado Motor Vehicles operational rules and procedures.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills (written and oral). Ability to react calmly and quickly in emergencies. Ability to quickly, dependably, and correctly solve problems with little or no supervision; and communicate the solution efficiently.
Proficient computer skills, keyboarding, word processing (including Google Documents), various web-based programs, and spreadsheets.
