Come Help Us Create Exceptional Learning for Exceptional Children!
Basalt Middle School seeks a full-time PEAK (Gifted & Talented) and Special Education Teacher for immediate hire in the 2017-18 school year.
The (half-time) PEAK coordinator is a staff member who is focused on meeting the academic and affective needs of gifted students through supporting their general education teachers and coordinating opportunities inside and/or outside of school. This role includes identification, assessment, development and coordination of Advanced Learning Plans (ALPs). It also includes providing or coordinating programming and progress-monitoring for students as well as providing or coordinating resources and professional development for teachers.
Along similar lines, the (half-time) Special Education portion of this assignment will work to differentiate learning experiences and services for SpEd students at BMS, and will collaborate with the building and district SpEd teams to create an environment of inclusion and positive learning and social/character outcomes for students assigned Individualized Learning Plans (IEPs). The degree to which this position will manage and define IEPs in the technical sense depends upon the license and endorsement(s) of the hired individual.
Basalt Middle School has been repeatedly recognized with the Colorado Governor's Distinguished Improvement Award for outstanding student growth. We have also been recognized nationally as a School to Watch for our Growth Mindset school culture. We are seeking candidates who hold students to high academic standards and understand the importance of character education in middle schools.
Candidates must possess or be eligible to obtain a CDE Certified Teaching License. A Special Education endorsement is highly beneficial but is not required at time-of-hire. Full benefits, including state pension and free health coverage for the employee are included.
