Wellness Coordinator (grant funded through December, 2019)
DEFINITION
The Wellness Coordinator ensures effective district-wide implementation of the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child model and the District’s Wellness Policy. The Wellness Coordinator designs, implements and provides technical assistance to schools around programs and initiatives to promote the health and well-being of students in District.
This is a grant funded, part time position, short term, school year position (24 months).
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Will receive direct supervision from the Director of Family and Community Engagement.
The Food Services Director will provide occasional oversight.
PRIMARY DUTIES - The following are examples of primary duties assigned to positions in this classification. Other related duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
- Research, develop and write a district comprehensive health and wellness plan and regulations. Present recommendations to different levels of the organization, including the Board of Education.
- Recruit, train and lead a strong and active district wellness council that represents all district stakeholders.
- Complete Smart Source assessments at each school.
- Support and coordinate with all schools in the development of a school wellness council that enhances school health and wellness.
- Coordinate district and school-level implementation related to school health and wellness, including physical education/activity and nutrition.
- Provide district level professional development opportunities for staff focused on the components of the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child.
- Participate in state-level coordinator meetings/professional development events related to Healthy Schools.
- Assure the collection and submission of appropriate school-level data.
- Increase capacity of school health teams to be high functioning and sustainable. Develop district-level sustainability plan.
- Create partnerships with other school and community health initiatives to build awareness and support for health and wellness across the district.
- Proactively market and present successes with staff, administrators, school board members, parents, and community members.
- Determine method in which to evaluate and improve wellness councils and initiatives.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge Of:
The Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child wellness model
Health and wellness initiatives as it relates to public schools
Public speaking and presentation techniques as well as marketing strategies
Concepts, methods and techniques of developing and implementing goals, objective and programs
Policy development and implementation across a large organization
Principles of training and program evaluation
Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulation
English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation
Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google programs and presentation software
Ability To:
Obtain, organize, and develop information material for audiences of varied interest
Write and edit reports for distribution through appropriate channels
Effectively communicate and present information both orally and in writing
Establish and maintain positive and effective interpersonal relationships with staff, the Board and media outlets
Motivate, inspire and move others into action to achieve assigned goals
Develop and maintain strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, collaboration and creative thinking
Travel throughout the District
Work independently with little direction and maintain confidentiality of District information
Occasionally work evenings
Fluent speaker and writer in Spanish and English is preferred
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Requires a bachelor's degree, preferably in studies related to health and wellness field.
Current or previous work-related professional experience related to the ten components of the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child model is preferred.
Experience and background in a leadership capacity in the area of school health and wellness is preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Office environment; exposure to computer screens. Travel from site to site. Some evening work.
Physical Conditions:
Primary functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting for prolonged periods of times; use of computer keyboard; light lifting and carrying. |
