The Riverview School seeks an Intermediate Affective Needs Teacher for the remaining 2017-18 school year and beyond. This position provides direct instruction and case management to guide each student to create a personalized learning plan for graduation or to meet goals on their Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and to access the varied options of the menu-driven curriculum. The Teacher has dual responsibility for supporting
students toward both academic and affective achievement and working with the students through transition to high
school, supporting the development of relationships between faculty and students.
Qualifications Required
Education: Bachelor’s degree
Licensure: Special Education Generalist: Teacher license issued by the Colorado Department of Education
Qualifications Preferred
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office
- Strong customer relations skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to collaborate with team members
- Leadership skills that support program objectives
- Ability to supervise, instruct, motivate, and solve problems with co-workers
- Effective teaching skills and experience
- Willingness to teach all subjects and to support literacy
- Understanding of the IEP process
- Experience with special populations, including conduct disorder and psychological dysfunctions
- Understanding of multiple physical and cognitive impairments and deep understanding of special education for SIED high school students
Major Areas of Responsibility and Duties Specific to this Job:
- Actively participate in developing a self-contained classroom in an alternative, experience-based school
- Conduct appropriate assessments
- Develop and implement effective, grade-level curriculum integrating skills and content and Individualized
- Education Plans (IEPs)
- Monitor student IEPs, academic work inside and outside of the school, life skills, work, and social emotional
- growth
- Provide guidance and counseling to students, parents, teachers, administrators, and community
- Supervise Para-Educators
- Other duties as assigned
