PREVENTION SPECIALIST

Job Description

Roaring School District is seeking a full time Prevention Specialist. This is a grant funded position, based in Carbondale.

This position is directed toward substance abuse prevention and the promotion of students’ mental health, including the establishment of a network for the identification and referral of students in need of intervention, and the overall development of staff and teacher capacity in addressing and minimizing at-risk behaviors.

Qualifications

A CDE-issued School Counselor, School Social Worker, School Psychologist, or School Nurse credential, or the capacity to obtain one, is required. Those still in-progress on their licensure are also hirable and welcome to apply. 

Previous experience with and training in adolescent substance abuse issues and/or counseling is necessary. State CAC certification is a plus, while not required.

Previous experience in “standing-up” new services within a K-12 or community-based environment is highly desired.

Viable candidates should demonstrate past success in producing and delivering trainings for students and for teachers or similar service professionals, with the aim of increasing staff capacity for addressing client/student mental health issues.

Previous experience serving in or managing multi-work-unit grant roles, grant administration and grant reporting, is preferred.

Knowledge of/previous experience with curricula related to tobacco cessation, drug abuse prevention, sex education, CASI-A interview techniques, etc. is highly desired.

Bilingualism in English/Spanish is a huge plus.
