Systems Administrator

 

RFSD Seeks a knowledgeable and capable Systems Administrator for our IT Department. 

 

The Systems Administrator is primarily responsible for the installation, operation, maintenance, upgrades, and troubleshooting of RFSD IT infrastructure, including servers (physical and virtual), storage, network, and data center hardware/software. They ensure IT systems are optimized, secure, and reliable. They collaborate with other IT Staff on various projects and provide direct end-user support, when needed.

 

Supervision Received and Exercised

Receives direct supervision from the Technology Director.

 

Primary Duties:

The following are examples of primary duties assigned to positions in this classification. Other related duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

  • Install, configure, maintain, update/upgrade, and troubleshoot application and database servers on Apple, Windows, and Linux systems (physical and virtual) for various organizational departments (HR, Finance, Transportation, HVAC, etc).
  • Manage backups and data retention on application/database servers and other infrastructure components.
  • Manage Active Directory infrastructure and related network services; DNS, DHCP, NPS, RADIUS, PKI, GPO, etc.
  • Manage and maintain a VMware ESXi Server/Nimble storage array environment.
  • Monitor, log, and report on IT system events and activity.
  • Manage, maintain, and test off-site Disaster Recovery equipment and procedures.
  • Provide basic and advanced device support (general use, wifi, printing, etc) to clients using various software on Mac, Windows, ChromeOS, and virtual devices.
  • Perform regular security monitoring to identify any network or system vulnerabilities and risks.
  • Maintain RFSD web content (via Joomla CMS) and assist district and school content teams with website management.
  • Develop and maintain process documentation for end-users and IT staff covering the deployment, operation, and troubleshooting of supported systems.
  • Create and maintain automation/integration scripts for server/systems interoperability.
  • Support the management of user accounts on various platforms using proprietary, open-source, and commercial tools.
  • Work with 3rd-party vendors as a Project Lead for implementation of new RFSD IT systems and services.
  • Provide small group instruction to clients covering system and device operations.

Knowledge of:

  • Network theories and design, including OSI model, TCP/IP, subnetting, VLANS, network topologies, LAN/WAN technologies.
  • Command-line management and shell scripting (Bash, Perl, Python).
  • Enterprise-based Linux and Windows server environments.
  • Network services including DHCP, FTP, SFTP, telnet, HTTP, HTTPS, DNS, AFP, SMB, SMTP
  • Server and storage hardware troubleshooting methods
  • Principles and practices utilized in networking and client/server environments.
  • Principles and practices of networking, network security, VOIP telephony, and server management.
  • Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.

 

Ability to:

  • Perform testing, installation, maintenance, and administration of network and personal computer hardware and software.
  • Setup and maintain routing protocols and static routes on network switches and routers
  • Analyze and assess system/network architecture requirements and ?determine optimum, cost-effective solutions.
  • Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain network equipment (switches, routers, firewalls).
  • Find, read, interpret and apply knowledge gained from complex technical publications, manuals, and other documents.
  • Provide excellent analytical, communication, interpersonal, technical writing and organizational skills.

 

Experience, Training, Certifications:

  • Three years experience in technology systems administration.
  • A bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer programming, or related field.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s License.

Working Conditions

Environmental Conditions:

Office and computer room environment; exposure to computer screens, cold temperatures, electrical and radiant energy, dust and high level of machine noise.

 

Physical Conditions:

Primary functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for an extensive amount of physical activity that requires strength and agility to carry out the necessary duties including standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time; moderate to heavy lifting and carrying; bending, stooping, kneeling and crawling, use of computer keyboard, travel from site to site.
