The STEM Integration Coordinator is a new role at GSES.  The STEM Integration Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing targeted and integrated STEM learning for students PK-5th grade.  We believe that all students should be immersed in deeper learning through projects that encourage critical thinking, collaboration, discovery and acquisition of skills and dispositions.  The STEM Integration Coordinator will oversee the development of this program by working closely with teachers as well as teach daily classes to students.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute an engaging curriculum that incorporates state standards, STEM skills and dispositions, and the GSES Habits of a Scholar
  • Responsible for leading professional learning and providing guidance for teachers in the areas of: project based-learning (Learning Expeditions), STEM instructional practices, and integration of STEM skills and dispositions into the core curriculum
  • Lead the development and execution of a PK-5 scope and sequence of STEM standards and units of study with a breakdown of skills integrated into Learning Expeditions (PBL) and those taught in isolation
  • Lead professional learning and collaborative conversations with teachers on the incorporation of STEM skills and dispositions into daily lessons
  • Partners with parents and organizations to promote advanced STEM-related activities during the school day and outside of regular school hours, including competitive programs like LEGO Robotics, etc.
  • Collaborate with school leaders to raise funds for STEM related materials.
  • Manages and maintains inventory of STEM materials
  • Coordinates the GSES Makerspace: promote and manage the it so it is accessible to all teachers and students outside of STEM class time
  • Offer relentless advocacy for STEM education, instructional practices, and career opportunities for students
  • Increase the involvement of underrepresented groups of students in advanced STEM activities

  • Seeking out additional opportunities for professional development that will lead to achieving personal and school-wide professional development goals.

  • Making visitors to the school feel welcome

 

Ideal Candidate

  • Elementary Teacher License and/or STEM related license
  • Master’s degree in a STEM related field
  • Five or more years of experience as a STEM teacher or teacher in a related field with clear evidence of student growth and skill acquisition
  • Experience leading and supporting the collaborative design of project-based learning units of study
  • Comes to the table with a depth of ideas and experiences for students connected to learning standards and outcomes
  • Experience with integrated curriculum mapping (backwards design) and vertical alignment
  • Experience with EL Education or a similar model
  • Experience leading professional learning and collaborative planning with teachers
  • Experience working in a STEM career or role outside of a traditional school.
  • Speaks Spanish
