Description

Roaring Fork Schools seeks a Community Technology Support Specialist for our IT Department. These full-time positions start at $21.45/hour and include full district benefits. These are 252-day positions. 

 

Community Technology Support Specialist

 

Definition

Performs technical  duties and responsibilities in the installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of personal computer hardware and software; Provides technical support and training to users of the District’s various teacher, staff and student computers, printers and copiers, wired and wireless networks,VOIP telephony; and performs a variety of duties relevant  to assigned area of responsibility.

 

Supervision Received and Exercised

Receives general supervision from the District Technology Supervisor.  

 

Primary Duties

The following are examples of primary duties assigned to positions in this classification. Other related duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

  • Perform technical duties in the testing, installation, imaging, maintenance and troubleshooting of personal computer hardware and software.
  • Provide level 1 support for computers, chromebooks, printers, copiers, wi-fi, networking and VOIP telephony.
  • Manage 1:1 Chromebook deployments for community schools.
    • Prepare technical documentation of technology processes for end users and RFSD Technology team.
    • Follow district practices and recommended toolsets for documentation, support and repairs, as provided by the Technology Support Team Leader and/or Technology Supervisor.
    • Provide technical assistance to clients within various schools; respond to user inquiries (via email, phone, in person) in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in a professional, efficient and timely manner, in compliance with helpdesk SLA’s (Service Level Agreements).
    • Perform technical tasks including imaging, deploying, and centrally managing computers, Chromebooks and tablets.

 

  • Perform procedures to properly diagnose hardware and software problems; determine cause and replace failed components as needed; communicate with service vendors as to the nature of specific problems and diagnostic results.

 

  • Coordinate with technical support team and users to define user needs for new or improved systems.
  • Provide individualized training for and assist users in the correct use of the District’s standard computer, server and telecommunications systems.
  • In collaboration with District Technology Integration Facilitator, develop training criteria and curriculum for classroom instruction for users of District software applications.
  • Provide backup coverage for other technology department staff.
  • Supervise and coordinate independent contractors who assist in projects like unboxing Chromebooks and wiring carts etc.
  • Coordinate, support and train school tech leads who help provide immediate response for tech support needs in their schools.
  • Maintain community area server rooms and other Technology Department areas so they are clean and free of clutter and other equipment.
  • Monitor school/community related UPS Systems and keep Technology Department Director up to date on issues that arise.

 

Qualifications

Knowledge of:

  • Operational characteristics of printers, copiers, peripheral devices, network platforms, and operating systems (Macintosh and Chrome, knowledge of Windows is preferable).
  • Methods and techniques of diagnosing system hardware and software problems.
  • Principles and practices utilized in networking and client/server environments.
  • Methods and techniques of developing technical manuals and user training guides.
  • In depth knowledge of all Gsuite Apps and the Google Management Console.
  • Principles and practices of network administration and user security.
  • Principles and practices used in the support of VOIP telephony.
  • Training principles and practices.
  • Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.

Ability to:

  • Manage stress in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
  • Multitask while prioritizing and completing tasks and projects of various nature.
  • Perform technical duties in the testing, installation, maintenance, and administration of personal computer hardware and software.
  • Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain computer systems and components.
  • Modify computer operating system parameters in various system files.
  • Find, read, interpret and apply knowledge gained from complex technical publications, manuals, and other documents (printed, intranet, and Internet).
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose system hardware, software and component problems.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Experience and Training Guidelines:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and ability is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

 

Experience:

Two years of increasingly responsible computer system and application support experience.

 

Training:

Equivalent to the completion of twelfth grade supplemented by related specialized training in computer science or related field.

 

License / Certificates:

Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Colorado Drivers License. Any technical certifications preferred.

 

Working Conditions

 

Environmental Conditions:

Office and computer room environment; exposure to computer screens; cold temperatures; electrical and radiant energy; dust and high level of machine noise.

 

Physical Conditions:

Primary functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for an extensive amount of physical activity that requires strength and agility to carry out the necessary duties including standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time; moderate to heavy lifting and carrying; bending, stooping, kneeling and crawling, use of computer keyboard, travel from site to site.
