The RFS Family Resource Center is seeking a Family Liaison for Early Childhood services in the Basalt area, to begin in August, 2018. This is a full-time position (40 hrs/week) with benefits included! Pay begins at $16.75 but may be higher for experienced candidates.
EARLY CHILDHOOD FAMILY LIAISON
DEFINITION: Works in the schools to improve student academic achievement by connecting families, schools and communities.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
- ECE Director – Directly supervises and evaluates the performance of the building liaison
- Family Services Director - Provides oversight, training, coaching and support to liaisons.
PRIMARY DUTIES
- Provides resource and referral and case management to RFSD preschool families, primarily those enrolled in Colorado Preschool Program and ECARE.
- Assess family need and provide appropriate information and support to parents.
- Support families in development of parenting skills and encourage participation in parent education opportunities as outlined in CPP and ECARE contracts.
- Increase enrolled families’ protective capacities by promoting individual, family, and community strengths.
- Collaborate with partnering agencies to connect enrolled families to vital economic and other support services
- Conduct home visits as needed to build relationships and to accommodate families who are unable to come to school.
- Work closely with Family Services Director regarding student needs and available resources, including funding.
- Provide families with transition to kindergarten orientation and support.
- Attend professional development and meetings.
- Maintain collaboration and communication with school staff, acting as a liaison between children’s teachers and their families regarding matters of academics, health and well-being.
- Bilingual Interpretation and translation as needed between family and school.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bilingual, biliterate, bicultural in Spanish and English
- Understanding of children with special health care needs
- Basic understanding of the stages of child development and language development
- Recognize potentially hostile situations and defuse situations appropriately.
- Knowledge of the available community resources
- Knowledge of various computer programs and technology
- Principles and procedures for record keeping
- Principles of business and letter writing and basic report preparation
- Basic mathematical principles
- Work efficiently with a service oriented attitude under stressful situations with frequent interruption.
- Work independently in the absence of supervision.
- Effectively manage time and multiple responsibilities.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Interpret and apply District policies and procedures.
- Independently prepare correspondence and memoranda.
- Implement and maintain standard filing system.
- Ability to develop relationships with a diverse community
EXPERIENCE & TRAINING GUIDELINES
- Two years of experience working with school age children and their families.
- High school diploma or equivalent. Supplemental education is preferred.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Two or more years of experience working with linguistically and culturally diverse families
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Office environment; exposure to computer screens. Travel from site to site.
- Physical Conditions: This position requires ability to give tours of schools and the community. There will be walking, climbing stairs, and sharing spaces.
- Primary functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting for prolonged periods of times; use of computer keyboard.
