Glenwood Springs High School is currently accepting applications for a full-time Special Education Paraprofessional, to start as soon as possible. Full benefits are included. Prior experience working with special needs children in a secondary school setting is highly desireable.

Under direction of a principal or assistant principal, paraprofessionals assist the classroom teacher, special education teacher or service provider with the supervision and instruction of students according to students' IEPs, as applicable. The paraprofessional receives direct supervision from the principal or assistant principal, and receives day to day direction from the classroom teacher, special education teacher or special service provider.  

PRIMARY DUTIES

1)  Under teacher direction, provide support in all areas of the classroom; assist with classroom instruction and classroom management. 

2)  Assist and support the teacher in carrying out class rules and expectations to maintain a productive learning environment.

3)  Assist in covering the class when the teacher is involved in assisting another student or out of the classroom.

4)  Provide adequate supervision of students at all times; escort, assist and supervise students in the hallways, lunchroom, playgrounds or outside areas and at school assemblies.

5)  Assist in proctoring assessments.

6)  Assist the teacher with preparing and organizing instructional materials. 

7)  Conduct small group and individual instruction according to the teacher’s lesson plans and students' needs.

8)  Report to work on time and accurately record time worked.

9)  Monitor student progress and communicate progress to students, parents, teachers and administrators.
