Assistant Principal

Basalt Middle School (BMS), in Basalt, Colorado, is seeking applications for a dynamic, communicative, responsive, enthusiastic, and personable educator to serve as assistant principal. BMS’s mission is “to ensure that EVERY student develops the enduring knowledge, skills and character to thrive and contribute in a changing world: Work Hard, Be Kind, Achieve.” Come and help us live by our mission!

BMS serves a diverse and multilingual student population of 450 5th through 8th-grade students. BMS seeks a positive and proactive individual who strives to bring their knowledge, skills, and experience to support teachers and ultimately build strong relationships with parents, students, and colleagues. Teachers at BMS work closely and collaboratively to learn and implement effective teaching strategies, and are supported through ongoing coaching cycles to help the continuous improvement of their craft.  

The ideal candidate must show competency or have experience in the following areas:

• Middle School teaching experience in a diverse environment
• Ability to create trust, develop relationships, and work collaboratively with a wide range of people
• Experience with culturally responsive instructional practices related to culturally and linguistically diverse students
• Experience with restorative practices, trauma-informed practices, and the ability to use multiple tools for discipline to teach skills and provide learning from mistakes
• Demonstrated growth mindset and willingness to learn and grow
• Ability to build student ownership of academic learning and character development
• Ability to value the whole child and the impact of all components of the school learning experience
• Ability to identify and promote effective instructional practices
• Ability to effectively coach teachers to improve instructional outcomes
• Strong understanding of and experience in closing the achievement gap
• Ability to lead high quality professional development
• Ability to utilize data to make decisions and facilitate data conversations
• Strong writing and public speaking skills; bilingual preferred
• Master's Degree in Education from an accredited college or university
• Ability to obtain a principal's license through the Colorado Department of Education
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
• Willingness to manage a variety of duties including but not limited to: lunch duties, building rentals, safety, scheduling, assessment, etc...
